WT: Phew,
countries? Not continents? Man, I...I mean I haven't named a lot of
places to be honest. I basically covered the chief continents, and
since then the nations of Animalia as a whole have...admittedly been
a “make 'em up as you go” situation. So, with that said I'll list
what I did come up with so far, and explain the ones that replace
parent countries.
First, there's
the seven continents, although I've been toying with including an
eight at some point, perhaps a take on Zelandia, the “Continent
that could have been.”
As it stands we
have,
North Mammalia =
North America
South Mammalia =
South America
Roarope = Europe
Afrikat = Africa
Ursa = Asia
Austalia =
Austrailia
Antbarktica =
Antarctica
Now, for
countries I've taken the time to name as they've come along, we've
got...
North Mammalian
Union = The USA, Canada and Mexico stand in, actually made up of
several smaller super states that would be made up of the states
Americans know, plus Canada and Mexico. Each of the countries are
still technically separate entities, but work under European Union
Rules. Zootopia lies in the heart of the North Mammalian Union,
despite being it's own 'city-state'.
Mexicat =
Mexico: I haven't toyed with that much in terms of deciding on what
aspects may be different in a Zootopian verion in terms of structure.
Canidea =
Canada: Canidea is largely made up of native mammal run nations, much
like some of the states in Amerikat? America as we know it?
Guatallama =
Guatemala: I had Gazelle briefly bring this up in Rehab as her home
nation, and talk about how bad pred/prey relations were there.
Admittedly my research was scant as with some nations, I wanted to
use the vague cultural elements from them, but stay away from hard
reflections of those societies as they are now. I made it sound like
a pretty rough place in Zootopia because I wanted it to be enough of
a constraint to push Gazelle to leave.
The New
Pridelands/Great Kitten/Kingland =England: This is complicated. In
Zootopia, Lions and felines were the driving force in much of the
early empires. This culminated in an empire known as “The
Pridelands Empire” Stretching out of South Afrikat and into parts
of Roarope. In this instance, it's sort of the “Roman” displacer.
It famously lasted for 1000 years before it partially collapsed,
leaving behind the old empires remnants in “South Afrikat”, and
the New Empire in Kingland, which would spearhead the founding of
Zootopia.
South Afrikat =
South Africa: An amalgam of several south African nations that exists
as a contemporary monarchy. It is a super-power that stands on equal
footing with the NMU, Kingland, Grrussia, and Panda.
Panda = China:
I'm not happy with that one, it needs work.
Grussia = Russia
Japanda = Japan:
While Japan isn't the natural habitat for Pandas, I figured that
either at some point Panda occupied Japanda and named it as such, or
the fact that the Red Panda's were driven out of Panda, and found
refuge in Japanda earned it the name.
Irelamb =
Ireland: I haven't explored Irelamb as deeply as “Schottram”,
Dawn's acestral home. But it would be similarly populated largely
with livestock mammals, wolves and foxes.
Schottram =
Scottland: I wrote a whole mess about Dawn's ancestral home, and
several of it's rulers. Very herbivore-centric cultural roots,
despite the injection of Norwulffish citizens as the years went on.
Lot's of pagan, or 'preygan' elements there.
Greater and
Lesser Norwulff: These nations basically replace Norway, Sweden and
Denmark, and was largely dominated by wolves. The wolf culture has
heavy nordic equivalent and viking roots to them, although with less
'raping and pillaging' going on as they reached a mass 'spiritual
enlightenment' several centuries ago.
East and West
Hyenya – Kenya: I nearly forgot this one, Hyenya is a war-torn
nation in South Afrikat, at least West Hyenya is. The reason it's
split between east and west is because it was once part of “The
Pridelands Empire”. With the Pridelands empire in charge, while
hyena's weren't treated particularly well, many felt living under the
law of the Pridelands was considerably less worse than the previously
violent matriarchal system that saw male hyenas treated as
sub-mammals by their own kind. After the Pridelands faltered, and
Hyenya earned its freedom in tor process, a split developed between
the populace, with one side wanting a return to their matriarchal
roots, while the other faction wished to build off the laws left in
place by the Pridelands. The border between the nations is a hot
zone, prone to skirmishes usually revolving around west hyenian
refugees looking for asylum in East Hyenya.
Alright, so
that's enough of that for now...this is already too long and it's
late. I hope that...sort of answered your ask.
