Ask the BellHunters

Hello, I'm Dawn Hunter-Bellwether...er, formerly Dawn Bellwether if you didn't recognize the added surname. And before you ask, yes 'that' Dawn Bellwether. Ex-Assistant Mayor, Ex-Mayor, Ex-Criminal Mastermind (Reformed thank you very much), City Savior, Controversial Author, and Predator/Prey relationship advocate. I'm also, as you probably guess by the hyphenated last name, married, and happily so to my mate Vernon Hunter, a gray wolf. I'm also a mother to three wonderful pups, something I never thought I'd ever have the chance to be! But, lamb sakes, I've gushed enough about myself here without explaining exactly what this blog is for. You see, after the release of my book “Predator Seeking Prey”, our little family started to get a lot of public attention again, and with it came a lot of question from curious mammals and other pred/prey couples from all over Animalia. My best friend and mate Vernon thought it would be a good idea to deal with these questions directly by opening a sort of blog/forum and taking those questions about our lives directly. Since then, I'd like to say our little blog has been quite successful, with even members of our family and friend circle pitching in and taking a few questions as well. So with all that said., please feel free to Ask Away!

Oh, and also, feel free to check our old location for previous asks until we can get a better archive system in place!

(Blog Author Note: This blog is based on the fanfiction “The Rehabilitation of Dawn Bellwether” as well as it's pseudo-sequel “A Lamb Among Wolves”. If you haven't read them, it'll probably help you better understand what's going on here if you do. I'll link both stories below. Oh Also, I'm open to questions as well. Simply direct “Author” emails to “WastedTime” when composing them. And before I forget, I have a Patreon! Five dollars gets you access to in progress fics, Ask priority, and art previews of both SFW and NSFW art. Of course, even a dollar would help. Seriously, it's how I keep projects like this alive.

FOUND AU Ask; Yuri and Ada; Yuri's Tears

Yuri: Absolutely not! I just...I had somethin' in my eyes is all.

Ada: Yeah, tears. Cause you was bawlin' like a pup over dat picture.

Yuri: Stop tryin' to make me look bad in public! Y'all know I didn't cry!

Ada: Oh please, youse can't lie to me! I was standin' right dere! You was all weepy, and you was whimperin'!

Yuri: I was tryin' to clear my throat...cause...er...I musta got some crayon dust in there from her little drawin'...I-It's why my eyes were glassy too! Mu-Must'a been allergic er' somethin'...

Ada: *Cackles* Hard to mistake a whine for a cough dere mookie, especially since coughs is short and sudden....but whines are long and bleed into each udders most of da time...and what was you allergic to exactly?

Yuri: The cr-crayon dust!

Ada: You'd be da first to have a reaction to dat....pretty sure those was hypo-allergenic anyways...

Yuri: M-Maybe it was Lily then! I don't know!

Ada: What? From da little itty bit of headfur she has?

Yuri: IT COULDA' BEEN!

Ada: Suure it coulda...but you did hug her back for a long time for someone so...allergic!

Yuri: I...I mean! I-I'm gonna hug my niece dammit!

Ada: Tail waggin' a mile a minute...

Yuri: YOUR JUST JEALOUS! Tryin' to tear me down just cause I got two pictures...

Ada: Eh...maybe a little...But at least I can be honest wit myself, unlike my little crypuppy ova here... *Chuckles*

Yuri: Shut yer muzzle! Only Puppy in this family is ol' Vern!

Ada: I'm startin' to tink maybe youse guys gave da wrong Hunta dat name...Not dat I mind. I tink sensative guys is cute...

Yuri: Don't CALL ME CUTE! I ain't no BUNNY!

Ada: Ah, you'll always be cute to me my little Mookie...especially when yous is givin' me a preview of what kinda Dad youse is gonna be...

Yuri: How many times I gotta tell you! I ain't raising no ankle-biters! I ain't budgin' on that position, y'all knew that when y'all started datin' me!

Ada: We'll see Mookie...we'll see...

FOUND AU Ask; Marcus' Journey

Dorian: I mean, it was honestly kinda...hard to take in at first, y'all know?

Yuri: Is that because it sounds like the kind of story Ully would tell?

Ulric: Make fun all you want, but I was right about Huumons! Just like I was right about Moira Blackwool!

Yuri: Even a broken clock is right twice a day...

Dorian: Well unlike one of Ully's...er...theory...I mean, the proof was in Marcus' even bein' here in the first place. But to think there are these hidden cities out there, all over Animalia, operatin' in secret cause their afraid of us...I mean...it's enough to make yer head spin on it's own.

Audrey: Then y'all have everythin' the poor boy went through in general. What his father did...in front of all them folks. And him bein' on that ship in the middle of that nasty squall while they were bein' attacked. It's a wonder he survived at all, the poor dear.

Zach: He's a strong pup. Endurin' as much as he has at his age...I'm just happy Me and my kitten have been able to help him heal, to be there for him and get to watch him start to blossom after dealin' with all that mess.

Vanna: Me too Goofball.

Dawn: It's just...it's still so mind-blowing to think all that happened, right under the noses of some of the most technically advanced nations in Animalia. To think they've been able to hide for this long.

Vernon: Had it not come from Marcus himself, I woulda chalked up the tale to somethin' out of one of Ully's books like Yuri said. It seemed impossible.

Xavier: Says the mate of the ewe who gave birth to the first pred-prey hybrid in over 300 years.

Vernon: I know, I know...but still...It's just wild.

Trenton: I just wish the boy coulda' found his way here through better circumstances...then again, I suppose had things been better in his home city, he wouldn't of had to run off...

Audrey: Well, what matters is that Marcus has a home now. A home and life he deserves, especially after all he's been through.

Ask Dorian; Our Role with the ZPD

Dorian: Technically yes, as both districts are considered part of Zootopia, that makes us part of the same big ol' ZPD family. However, obviously there are some differences in the laws per district. Fer instance, strict water regulation laws ain't gonna be as necessary in “The Rainforest District” compared to “Sahara Square”, And the same would go fer ice construction regulations in “Tundra Town” compared to “Savanna Central”. One big difference between us and the inner city ZPD is our laxer live firearm ownership laws. While ownin' any sorta live munition weapon in the city is illegal unless yer with the ZPD or the Reserve, Out here y'all can get a permit fer a wide variety of guns and ammo. O'course, it's a necessity out here. The fact that were so rural means that us officers can't always be out to someone's property in a blink, so the need to be able to fend fer yerself is more pressin'. There's also wildlife to deal with, some of which can be more dangerous than others.

Also, we don't get to work with the inner-city branches all to often. As I said before, The North Meadowlands is purty rural, same fer Alpine Glade. Both Districts are also much larger than the others, so much so that it makes callin' Zootopia a 'city-state' much more accurate than just refferin' to it as a mega-city. Essentially we only work with the inner city when it's a massive case, er' a suspect is believed to have made a run out to our area in an effort to use the ruralness of the place to better hide out. Last time we had any big co-operative cases with the rest of the districts was with the “Last Night” Case. O' course, that should make sense to y'all seein' as how there were co-conspirators hidin' in almost every district.

Ask Kodi and Conner; Coyotes vs. Wolves; Howling

Conner: If you want to get...technical...then...I mean, a true coyote howl, like a real primal call can carry about half a mile.

Kodi: Whereas a wolf's howl can travel nearly ten miles under optimal conditions and climate. Of course, that's an estimate based on calls carrying over arctic tundra. In a majorly congested city like Zootopia, I imagine a wolf's howl carries under a mile.

Conner: O' course that's not too much of an issue considering you wolves tend to amplify each others howls.

Kodi: Don't act like Coyotes don't have an innate urge to howl or 'scream' when they hear another coyote. Just because there are less coyotes in Zootopia then wolves doesn't mean you guys aren't just as bad as the rest of us.

Conner: Pft...Shows what you know. At least I can keeps my calls under control when I'm in the heat of a rut. You on the other paw, well you make sure the whole district knows.

Ask the Ruminerds; Maulout Series

Vernon: Hey, first off...three ain't that bad.

Gus: Are you kidding? Maulout three was the first, big warning sign that the series was about to go into a death spiral.

Joel: Gus is a purist. He wasn't willing to give any of the Maulout entries a shot post the gameplay change.

Gus: Because they dumbed everything down to make it this weird, fps and vaguely RPG elemented hybrid game. No more turned based strategy or really hard DnD style stats. And do I even need to mention all the retconning, which only got worse with the continued entries in the series?

Joel: New Preygas was actually pretty good, and that should mean a lot coming from me, considering I generally stick to Eastern Developers for my RPG gaming.

Vernon: I wasn't huge on Preygas. But I mean, that was after I played three, and I was getting' kinda tired of the aesthetic...

Gus: It's a post nuclear wasteland! What were you expecting?

Vernon: I dunno...I mean, in three, it's like three-hundred years after the war and all...You'd think some greenery would'a started to sprout by then...O'course, even a nuclear winter region woulda been a nice change o' scenery. Everything in them games was so brown and grey...

Joel: That's one thing I'll give four credit on, the aesthetic was a lot nicer even if the story and side quests got worse.

Vernon: That's the one set in Clawston, right?

Joel: Yep.

Gus: Is it too much to ask for a return to form? Like a real classic turn based Maulout?

Joel: If seventy-six is any indication of the direction the series is going in, that would be a no...

Vernon: Sweet Sawgrass, that game looked awful. And all them micro-transactions! Thankfully Zootopia has laws against that sort of egregious nickle and dimin', so they had to introduce a better point earin' system before the game was allowed to be sold in the city.

Gus: At the very least, Seventy-six being a dumpster fire is something we all can agree on...

Ask Vern, Dawn, Gus, and Mellie; Soul

Vernon: Not yet, but we're bound to see it sooner er' later with the pups and all.

Dawn: I know Edi want's to see it. Allison isn't really all that interested as she's going through the whole 'Animated movies are for little lambs' phase of her life.

Vernon: And Paige is kinda...too young to have a movie preference. But we're hopin' to squeeze in some family movie time this weekend to take it in.

Gus: Mellie and I liked it.

Melanie: First decent new Pawxar in a while....well that isn't a sequel anyway.

Gus: yeah, they were going ham with the sequels for a while. Toy Story four was especially egregious...

Melanie: It wasn't that bad...

Gus: Oh no, I mean it wasn't. But...I mean three sort of ended the series. It felt final, like the book end, y'know? Four kind of...ruins that unnecessarily. They would have been better off just doing shorts, of a dismurinae plus series or something.

Vernon: Like what I said about that Dinotauria series their finally doin'?

Gus: Exactly! I still can't believe they made a Mawnster's Inc series before they decided to do a Dinotauria one. Like, the Dinotauria world seems like it had way more to explore in terms of lore and world building.

Vernon: Yeah, who knows what was goin' on in the heads of them execs on that one? I mean, it was like passin' up free money.

Gus: Provided it turns out good anyway...

Vernon: I suppose we'll see...

Dawn: I just hope they don't lean on the villain from the movies because they don't have any fresh ideas. That trope is pretty played out by now...

Ask Dawn And Vern; Tricked into Drinking

Vernon: Thankfully not. Even Yuri, as bad as he is with his brand o' 'pranks' hasn't went and tried to get us drunk against our will.

Dawn: I think that's mostly because Ada and your mother keep him in check.

Vernon: Eh, true. But even Yuri knows what yer Pa was like. If it were just me, he probably would take a chance on slippin' me alcohol so I make a spectacle of myself. But y'all...well, what you went through growin' up I'm purty sure has earned Yuri's respect. Even if he'd never admit it.

Dawn: All that said, it's not as if we completely abstain. Vernon and I have had a sip of dessert wine here and there, but very rarely.

Vernon: And most we've ever gotten from it was buzzed.

Dawn: Once, during our first double date with Judy and Nick. And as much as I hate to admit it, it was worth getting a little buzzed if it meant easing the tension between you and Nick.

Vernon: Maybe if he knew when to keep his dumb muzzle shut we'd had never needed to rely on dessert wine to smooth things over...

Dawn: Oh Puppy...well he's gotten better at keeping his joke to himself right? I mean, we haven't had to resort to overdoing the dessert wine since.

Vernon: Yeah, but there's a reason we got an emergency bottle on the shelf. *chuckles* With Nick, we're always a few off color remarks about yer past away from uncorking a bottle.

Author's Notes; I'm Sick. Also New Fanfic Chapter Drop!

Yeah, so that's why there weren't any asks this week, I've been saddled with a pretty nasty head/chest cold and I've been mostly trying to get over that. I was tested for covid earlier in the week, and came up negative (Thank god)

That said, I can at least share with you that the newest chapter of 'The Family Vulpes" is live. Check out the link below if you haven't read it already.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13578632/4/The-Family-Vulpes

Reviews mean a lot, but since I can't respond to them outside of DMs, I....generally don't. I'm better with reviews on Furaff and what not. But I still read the reviews anyway!

I may post some 'classic' asks later today, ones recently dredged and updated from the old archive.

Thanks for understadning!
