Ask the BellHunters

Hello, I'm Dawn Hunter-Bellwether...er, formerly Dawn Bellwether if you didn't recognize the added surname. And before you ask, yes 'that' Dawn Bellwether. Ex-Assistant Mayor, Ex-Mayor, Ex-Criminal Mastermind (Reformed thank you very much), City Savior, Controversial Author, and Predator/Prey relationship advocate. I'm also, as you probably guess by the hyphenated last name, married, and happily so to my mate Vernon Hunter, a gray wolf. I'm also a mother to three wonderful pups, something I never thought I'd ever have the chance to be! But, lamb sakes, I've gushed enough about myself here without explaining exactly what this blog is for. You see, after the release of my book “Predator Seeking Prey”, our little family started to get a lot of public attention again, and with it came a lot of question from curious mammals and other pred/prey couples from all over Animalia. My best friend and mate Vernon thought it would be a good idea to deal with these questions directly by opening a sort of blog/forum and taking those questions about our lives directly. Since then, I'd like to say our little blog has been quite successful, with even members of our family and friend circle pitching in and taking a few questions as well. So with all that said., please feel free to Ask Away!

Oh, and also, feel free to check our old location for previous asks until we can get a better archive system in place!

(Blog Author Note: This blog is based on the fanfiction “The Rehabilitation of Dawn Bellwether” as well as it's pseudo-sequel “A Lamb Among Wolves”. If you haven't read them, it'll probably help you better understand what's going on here if you do. I'll link both stories below. Oh Also, I'm open to questions as well. Simply direct “Author” emails to “WastedTime” when composing them. And before I forget, I have a Patreon! Five dollars gets you access to in progress fics, Ask priority, and art previews of both SFW and NSFW art. Of course, even a dollar would help. Seriously, it's how I keep projects like this alive.

Ask Melly; Life with her Parents

Melanie: It really wasn't the best...honestly it was pretty miserable. My parents were all about maintaining an image. And I was...well, an extension of that image. At least, that seemed to matter more to them than loving me just for being their kid.

Melanie: In that way, me and Dawn are a lot alike. Not that I was physically abused like Dawn was. But we were both subjected to unrealistic expectations and emotional manipulation from a very early age. I had to succeed at every extracurricular activity they forced me to take up just to earn the tiniest scraps of feigned affection from them. Actually, I remember every time my Mother actually gave me a hug...I'd just start bawling. They meant the world to me as a kid. Only now as an adult, I realized just how stiff and emotionless those hugs were. They much preferred buying stuff to fill the role of an emotional connection, rather than...facilitate an actual emotional connection. I suppose if there's a silver lining, it made it way easier to connect with Dawn and fast-tracked us to being best friends pretty quickly.

Melanie: When I was approaching puberty, everything just kept building up. More and more responsibility was heaped on me, with less and less of an emotional reward given to me for my hard work. The older I got, the more my parents expected me to excel for the sake of excelling. And it all came to a head during my...*Cringes* Ballet recital. *Shakes head* I was performing my heart out when I made a simple misstep, and twisted my ankle, dropping to the ground center stage for all to see. I knew, I knew in that moment, that I had failed my parents. I wasn't 'perfect', and I embarrassed the family. I didn't know-I couldn't know that I needed parents who could tell me that it was 'Okay' to not be perfect. That nobody was perfect. In that instant, while the audience remained dead quiet, everything in my mind just mounted, and I...I broke. I wept and sobbed hysterically until a stagehoof could help me off stage...The only coherent thing I could get out through my sobs was how sorry I was.

Melanie: It was the worst and happiest day of my life. Worst because of the scene I made at the recital. But also the best because my Doctor told my parents in no uncertain terms, I could no longer perform ballet. He also told my parents that they were required to put me in therapy or he would report them to child services. *Chuckles dully* My parents figured while it marred the image of their daughter as 'broken' to seek therapy, something they said in front of me many times, therapy stood to fix me. What they didn't count on was my therapist becoming the parent I needed. Asking me 'what I wanted to do?', and telling me that 'I didn't need to be perfect, and no mammal was.'

Melanie:
So I began to rebel, I got more and more ornery. My parents eventually cut the therapy believing it to be the source of my rebellion, which wasn't entirely untrue, but I kept seeing my therapist out of the office until I was old enough that my parents couldn't stop me. Not many therapists would do that, but Mrs Suricatta really cared about me...I don't go to therapy anymore, but we still keep in touch, and I'll always see that meerkat as being like a mother to me. Well, she and my Aunt. My life with my parents ended in college, where I jumped at the chance to dorm. Though my schooling for a degree like genetic research was completely covered by the City thanks to it being deemed as a practical degree, my grades got me a full scholarship for my dorm, general survival, and resources so I could focus on my degree full time. But a degree of that caliber takes longer than most to earn. Still, once I got out of that house, I rarely ever went back.

Melanie: In college, I eventually met my Gussy-Wussy when he enrolled and well...the rest is history. *Giggles* And aside from his sleep equipment making so much noise it made Vernon want to jump out a window when he lived with Gus, I've been happy ever since we met and moved in together.

Gus: To be fair, it helps that you sleep like a rock. *Laughs*

Melanie: It's like white noise to me at this point. *Chuckles* I honestly think the super-reactor powering the heating and cooling systems in Zootopia could have a full-scale meltdown and I'd sleep right through it.

Savage Love Page 4

Cutting it close to the 'dropping this week' statement I made, but here it is. Just in time, Page four of Savage Love.

Still no nudity, but lots of lurid and shameless making out on this spread. I may have went overboard with the...expressive graphics on this one, but I hope it still works for you guys.

At this point the walls have come down, with both Dawn and Vern professing their love for one another, they are free to give in fully to their formerly repressed desires. to the point where it seems Dawn's getting pretty quickly overwhelmed. Consumed by love, by lust, by burning heat, she seems to need a breather. Where it goes from there? You'll have to wait on the next page to find out (Although if you've read the Uncensored Rehab cut, you know why she asks to stop and where it goes.) Lol

I think we're still...two to three pages from actual nudity? But the next page will at least be the last bit set in the extreme lighting of the living room. With the character's coloration, I was initially aiming for a semi-flat flourish look as to not obscure anything and to save myself work. But in order to keep them consistant with the lighting on the first page, I've had the harsh shading going for much longer than I wanted.

Anyway, enjoy the newest page!

Ask the Ruminerds; Terrible Video Games

Vernon: Oh, they don't know...

Dawn: Don't know what?

Gus: Of course, they wouldn't know, I don't think they've ever asked this before. *Snickers*

Melanie: Oh no...now he's gonna drive back to his parents and get it.

Dawn: Get what? What are we talking about?

Vernon: Well...I er...I mean Gus should probably tell it...he's the one sittin' on it after all.

Gus: Well...as you guys know I'm an avid collector of a few things. B&B rulebooks, Minifigure sets, RPGs, that sort of stuff... but there is something else I used to collect...and that something was terrible games I'd pick up at yard sales and flea markets.

Dawn: Wait, you collected 'bad' games? Why?

Gus: Morbid fascination I guess, maybe a desire to kinda theorize what went so wrong with each game. Some were also broken in a fun way, so there was that aspect, but regardless I made a habit of collecting them.

Vernon: Yeah, by the time we met y'all had a pretty hefty collection of 'em, even the really old ones...

Gus: Well my Dad was a dork, and a bit of a collector himself, so by the time I was old enough to pick up a controller I had access to his old Petari, Llamadore 64, NES, SNES, and even the ol' Preyga Genesis with all the terrible attachment things they made to keep it on life support. And havin' all those consoles and playing them as much as I did as a kid, I became aware really fast that some games seemed insanely difficult or super unfair. It was when my Dad caught me playing E.T. and bleating with impotent toddler-aged fury that he explained to me that some games were just bad. That it had nothing to do with my own skill level, it was just an awful game. That concept blew my young mind. I could imagine why someone would make a bad game, and my Dad really couldn't tell me.

Vernon: Couldn't tell ya?

Gus: Well I mean it told me there was a bunch of reasons, companies being cheap, trying to rush stuff out, all sorts of stuff. But it still left me curious about design choices and stuff like that. So I started quizzing my Dad on all the games he had that were bad, and then I went right to playing them.

Melanie: My Gussy, the masochist...

Gus: By the time I met Vernon I had already started collecting 'bad games' alongside my retro and new consoles. Supermam' 64, Zippy R, of that one Doom clone for the SNES that they turned into a caprid bible game?

Vernon: And what's worse, he made me play 'em with him...

Dawn: No...

Vernon: Yep. Every time I came over and saw he had that...damn chest out...I knew I was in fer a rough sleepover...

Dawn: Chest?

Melanie: Gussy's Chest of gaming Horrors...

Gus: *chuckles evilly to himself* Yes, yes...and now that I've been reminded of its existence, I think it's time to bring it out of retirement...

Savage Love Page 3

The story continues with page three, Vernon now confessing his feelings to an equally lovestruck Dawn as the pair move into their first kiss. Well, really it was more Dawn, at least at first. She pounced on that kiss with all the force her little body could muster, and Vernon returned it in kind. It only gets spicier from here people...so gird your loins. literally.

I actually fought with this page quite a bit to get everything right. I was super worried about keeping Dawn and Vern's proportions consistent from the previous page...and I'm equally worried that's going to continue to be a struggle. Despite how long I've been drawing the both of them, I'm still not as confident keeping their designs in line compared to drawing something like Misfit.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoy this page. More to come...obviously.

Savage Love (Page 2)

What a surprise, once again slightly behind schedule with my estimates. I swear I should just stop making them all together...but I suppose if I didn't create that little bit of external pressure to meet an established deadline, that would just make things worse not better.

Still regardless, page two of "Savage Love" Is hot off the presses and ready to post. Ideally, I wanted to have this ready to roll last week but...my health has been rough and honestly, I still have yet to get it...well stable enough to know I'm gonna be able to get some real consistent work over the next few days.

I don't want to bore you with specifics, as by this point I'm sure many of your regular readers are getting tired of reading this sort of thing, but I'm starting new medication now that....well I'm hoping will give me some degree of control over my 'condition'. In the meantime, the doctor told me I have to basically go out of my way to take it easy and rest, and actually give myself time to stabilize rather than jump right into work the moment I get an inkling that I'm starting to feel better.

Enough about that, let's actually get on to a little write-up on page here. Picking up from...well it'd be wrong to call the first page a 'cliffhanger' I guess, but it ended quite abruptly. This time around we actually delve a bit into the actual scene as Dawn and Vernon share a brief back and forth in Vernon's living room, illuminated by little more than the backlight Vernon's HD TV. For those of you who read the REHAB fic, you'll know exactly what Vernon said at the hospital while he thought Dawn was in a coma and couldn't hear him. For the rest of you, you'll just have to wait until page three drops sometime in late May to earlier June (fingers crossed) for your answer.

In the meantime, the full-res of this page will be going up on my patreon shortly after I post here, so if having access to that sort of thing interests you, or if you just want to support their artist behind 'Ask THe Bellhunters' and their work, feel free to check my patreon out and consider becoming a member. Just pledging a dollar will get you access full res work and works in progress a full month ahead of the public releases.

Working on a New Chapter

Yep, I'm working on the next chapter of The Family Vulpes, So asks are going to be a bit delayed. I'm also shooting for working on the next page of Savage Love this week...so I'm gonna be a bit busy.

Savage Love (Page 1)

Told you I was working on something pretty big didn't I? Some of you may remember me mentioning that I wanted to produce a comic adaptation of the Rehabilitation of Dawn Bellwether, specifically the chapter 'Savage Love'. Well consider this my first...and honestly way over top top first installment of the series. The debut page. As you can tell this page in particular took a lot of extra elbow grease to get ready for release. Most of that effort went into the establishing shot. Thankfully, the pages from here on out will take less time and energy as I won't be doing any elaborate city shots for the foreseeable future. That should help in terms of completion time to say the least.

Naturally I'll only be able to share these pages on the blog until thinks start to get...well racy, after that you'll have to keep an eye on my art pages such as FurAffinity or Sofurry to keep reading. But be advised, patreon members will get comic pages a whole month ahead of time. So it pays to be a Patreon.

How you guys like what you see so far, and that you're looking forward to more.

Much Love,

-Wasty

Life with Haida and Fenn; Like Mother Like Daughter

Now don't get it twisted, this isn't like an 'April Fools', or that I'm changing the blog or anything. I just had this cute idea for a comic kicking around in my brain and decided to put it to...er? file? While I was on my Yule break. As a fan...well, former fan of the Aggretsuko series, this seemed like a fun idea for a little side comic that I figured I'd share so we didn't have another week go by without content before I go back to the usual stuff next Monday. I thought those of you that like the series...or the ship, or whatever, would like this comic.

That said, please don't send any "Life with Hiada and Fenn" asks. This was just a one-time thing, and I don't need to make running this blog more confusing for myself. Regular "AskTheBellhunters" will return next week. Until then, enjoy...

Ask from the Past?; Tasmanian Tigers

Hilariously, I've actually answered this sort of ask before, but I didn't really expound on it. Anyway, like Mammoths and Saber Tooth tigers, Tasmanian Tigers do still live in “Austalia”, I had even made one the actual Prime Minister of the country in...what I guess I'd say is the current timeline of the story? The present? I thought I had Dawn detail that the species was common, at least in Austalia, and not extinct or even endangered. Unlike The Saber-Tooth Tiger and Mammoth which, while they still exist, there are few and their morphology has begun to change due to how “Evolution” works in Zootopia in terms of sentient mammals.

However, the text I scavenged below from the intial blog entry doesn't mention any of that, so...there's an expanded take from my perspective. Included below is the text from the original blog post. Thanks for the ask!

“Thanks to user Guillermo for pointing out that Hyenas are apparently felines, something I missed during my research because I was so sure they were just Canids. I’ll have to handle this in LAW as well when it comes to Ada…” -Old Ask Post

Japanda Journeys; The End?

At last, the project I started like...a million years ago is done, and Joel had completed his arc. I'd like to thank Wondlaru for his wonderful ask that allowed me to unleash this madness unto you all, even if it took a little over half a year to do it. Also, I'd like to thank my Patreon backer Kara for suggesting the name "Megumi Gomipa" for Joel's new little friend, and the rest of the backers for picking it out of the pool of options.

So where will Joel and Megumi go from here? Well, who knows? I suppose will have to see how things out as asks...and fics roll by... Still, I hope you very much enjoyed his Japanda Journey.

Japanda Journeys; Episode 6 Part Two

And here's part two of three. Granted Part three is intended to be a single, more detailed panel to finish off this little Saga. Christ, it's nearly been a year since I took this person's ask and ran with it. That said, I should probably look up exactly where that ask is so I can thank the person who asked it heavily. I hope the surprise comic that came out of it was worth it...despite how long it took...

Japanda Journeys; Episode Six Part One

I meant to start posting these last week, but a combination of keeping up with commissions and dragging health kinda threw a wrench in those plans. As of right now, my health is still dragging otherwise I would have aimed to have at least two pages out tonight, but I'll try to have another page out tomorrow, maybe even both as "Episode 6" should only contain about three pages. Moreso two pages and a final splash page. Funnily enough, I almost drew Paige in this one, strapped to Vernon via baby Bjorn like a previous pic set in Gus' shop. Then I remembered that "Japanda Journeys" is supposed to take place before Dawn and Vern even adopt pups. We're talking around the last chapter of Rehab and where the Family Vulpes Story will be picking up in terms of timeline. Joel's plan to live in Japanda for a while in order to get to know Megumi better is part of Gus' motivation to pick up a new player for the weekly B&B sessions.

Anywho, I should be back tomorrow with page two, but for now, please enjoy.
