Ask the BellHunters

Hello, I'm Dawn Hunter-Bellwether...er, formerly Dawn Bellwether if you didn't recognize the added surname. And before you ask, yes 'that' Dawn Bellwether. Ex-Assistant Mayor, Ex-Mayor, Ex-Criminal Mastermind (Reformed thank you very much), City Savior, Controversial Author, and Predator/Prey relationship advocate. I'm also, as you probably guess by the hyphenated last name, married, and happily so to my mate Vernon Hunter, a gray wolf. I'm also a mother to three wonderful pups, something I never thought I'd ever have the chance to be! But, lamb sakes, I've gushed enough about myself here without explaining exactly what this blog is for. You see, after the release of my book “Predator Seeking Prey”, our little family started to get a lot of public attention again, and with it came a lot of question from curious mammals and other pred/prey couples from all over Animalia. My best friend and mate Vernon thought it would be a good idea to deal with these questions directly by opening a sort of blog/forum and taking those questions about our lives directly. Since then, I'd like to say our little blog has been quite successful, with even members of our family and friend circle pitching in and taking a few questions as well. So with all that said., please feel free to Ask Away!

Oh, and also, feel free to check our old location for previous asks until we can get a better archive system in place!

(Blog Author Note: This blog is based on the fanfiction “The Rehabilitation of Dawn Bellwether” as well as it's pseudo-sequel “A Lamb Among Wolves”. If you haven't read them, it'll probably help you better understand what's going on here if you do. I'll link both stories below. Oh Also, I'm open to questions as well. Simply direct “Author” emails to “WastedTime” when composing them. And before I forget, I have a Patreon! Five dollars gets you access to in progress fics, Ask priority, and art previews of both SFW and NSFW art. Of course, even a dollar would help. Seriously, it's how I keep projects like this alive.

Ask Finnick and Gazelle; First Kiss?

Finnick: Awkward? Angry? Fiery?

Gazelle: Muy Caliente. *Chuckles*

Finnick: A lot of my time working as Gab's undercover bodyguard is strictly confidential. Even if her stalker is behind bars for life, it's...still considered too recent and too...ugh...how do I explain? It's like, it maps out a lot of the security standards in place to protect Gazelle, so it can't be made public for that reason. So we have to be careful with...how we retell it...

Gazelle: Basically Mi Pequeno Amor had been my guard for a few months by that point. And he was very...well, he started to be very...how do I say this? Telling me how things were 'going to go' when it came to my security.

Finnick: Because you were being too lax with your fans! Letting them get too close! *Pfft* We still barely had an idea of what that nutcase looked like and you were just letting every fan of yours within box-cutter swiping range!

Gazelle: I refused to punish the rest of my fans for the actions of one!

Finnick: Natural selection at its finest folks!

Gazelle: *Waves a dismissive hoof at Finnick* Ay, Pequeno dictador!

Finnick: It wasn't like it was a permanent requirement! Just until we caught the guy!

Gazelle: *Rolls eyes* We're just back in the same argument again. So overprotective...*Giggles*

Finnick: Of course I was! It was my job and...well...

Gazelle: After he caught me hugging two fans and posing for a picture, he shut down the fan event, and we got into a heated argument in my dressing room, during which my Pequeno Dictador decided he was going to 'set the ground rules'. *Scoffs* Like I was a little faun again being dressed down by my father.

Finnick: And when she pointed that out to me...well... dug myself a deeper hole.

Gazelle: "If you're going to act like a kit, I'll damn well treat you like one!" *Shakes her head dismissively.* So much anger, so much of compensating, eh?

Finnick: I'm small! Of course I need to overcompensate! *Laughs*

Gazelle: *Chuckles* At least you can admit that now.

Finnick: I made it worse by calling her a fake activist, among other things, telling her a temporary suspension of all that virtue signaling with her fans was more than worth keeping her alive in my eyes...even if I knew better by then...or at least, had seen enough working under Gabby to know I had her pegged wrong...and to...well, start feeling things.

Gazelle: And the more heated we got, the more we drew closer to each other.

Finnick: Voices getting louder, bodies getting closer... until I'm standing on her lap, right up in her face. I think the last thing I said was something like..."I'm not losing my job over you, if you got a death wish, you can make it happen when the case is wrapped!" Or something like that.

Gazelle: Followed by "Gods, why is it that one of the few good ones has to be so damn dumb!" *Snickers* I think that's the best backhooved compliment I've ever gotten.

Finnick: I think you said as much...something like "How can such a little mammal be so mean and so kind at the same time!?"

Gazelle: *Laughs* Something like that...

Finnick: Then we were just glaring at each other, panting and staring daggers until...I guess...I dunno...all that anger and arguing just forced something to the surface I was trying to suppress...

Gazelle: We both were, for...different reasons...For you, it was not letting any sort of emotional attachments get in the way of your job...and for me it was...

Finnick: You were afraid I'd think you easy...as loose as I assumed all pop star celebrities were.

*Gazelle nodes, frowning softly.*

Finnick: But then...it just...one minute we were glaring daggers at one another, the next we were deep in each other's muzzle...

*Gazelle begins to blush, wafting a hoof near her neck as if trying to cool herself off.*

Gazelle: Muy, Muy Caliente. *Giggles* We tried to stop ourselves but...the passion was too great. We blew through our first kiss, and all the bases before we could even begin to get ahold of ourselves...

Finnick: *Chuckles* I don't regret it...I regret how we got there, but not what happened...

Gazelle: I wouldn't change it for the world Mi Pequeno Amor. For all the harsh words, it...it got us to our happiness...

Finnick: Things were a bit complicated after that, both of us still processing our feelings, and what we did...but we...we figured it out.

Gazelle: And in the end, it was for the best...still is...*Kisses Finn on the top of his head.* Te amo Mi Pequeno Amor...Te amo...

Finnick: Te Amo to you too...

Ask Gazelle; Famous Celebrity Collabs

Gazelle: Oh Ay, I've had plenty of "Guests" turn up during my stage shows. *Gazelle rolls a hoof lazily* Granted, it was not a surprise for me...*snickers* Obviously it was arranged before hoof. But I've made quite a few dear friends during my climb up the Pop-Music ladder, and I've have quite a few collaborative projects and performances under my belt at this point to show for that.

Finnick: So, which famous celebrities are jerks, and which ones are actually cool people? I'm sure that's what everyone here really wants to know.

Gazelle: *Snickers, waiving her mate away with a dismissive hoof* Shh! Shh! Silencio Mi Pequeno Amor...You know I can't say anything like that for legal reasons...*Laughs*

Finnick: I bet most of them are real Honest Johns. *Chuckles*

Gazelle: *Rolls her eyes* And you are a good judge of character yes? Considering what you thought I was like before meeting me?

*Finnick winces, rubbing the back of his head with a look of clear discomfort.*

Finnick: W-Well...that's...I-I mean-..

Gazelle: "She's a fake activist type. Is all virtue signaling? I bet that ass is all plastic surgery?" Does this sound familiar to you huh, Orejas Grandes...

*Finnick holds his paws up defensively, ears sagging slightly.*

Finnick: Okay, okay! *Laughs* I know I was off base...especially about the ass thing...

Gazelle: *Rolls her eyes and shakes her head dismissively* Waaaaay of Base! *Laughs* That said, a lot of them are asses yes, mostly the ones you really wouldn't expect. And while I am...limited in what I can say, just pay attention to the mammals I've done multiple collaborations with and you'll know who the real mammals with heart are...

Finnick: That's a good cover...*Snickers*

Gazelle: I will say my favorite 'surprise guests', for songs and live shows have been Justin Timberwolf, Suri Nicks, Miley Sirus, Carlos Stampada, and of course Dawn Hunter-Bellwether, although she's never sung with me, only helped with writing our book and a lot of the lyrics for the companion album. But she's a delight to be around. Make of that what you will...

Finnick: I uh...notice you left Jennifer Lupus out of that list.

Gazelle: *Gazelle's brow visibly furrows, her lips momentarily pursing* I did. And since she's talked about me publically, I'm comfortable calling her a stuck-up puto. *Huffs* If she wants to take that to court, we can go down the list of things she's called me publically first...Tit for tat.

Finnick: *Chuckles* Well, at least I was right about one of them...

Gazelle: Right? Ho-ho, don't even get me started Mi Pequeno Amor. I could talk for an hour or more about how much of a- *Gazelle stops herself, placing a hoof to her muzzle and coughing awkwardly*

Finnick: Want me to turn the mic off? Get this off the record?

Gazelle: Si, off the record.

Ask the Author: Gazelle and Finn Hybrids

WT: Actually, this isn't entirely off the table...I mean Gazelle and Finn having a kit or calf or whatever. What I mean to say is, that Gazelle has the kind of money to pay for the most cutting-edge pregnancy treatments in all of Animalia, which would be slim pickings when Paige is first born, but as the years go on, Zoot medical and fertility experts would be able to get better and better at helping hybrid couples conceive as they grew to understand the process.

That said, I don't see Gazelle and Finn pursuing it for quite a while...more than likely even starting to toy with the idea fifteen to twenty years after the first pred-prey hybrid. (Paige). But before then, I can easily see Gazelle and Finn getting married and starting a family...primarily through adoption. Gazelle would keep her career, of course, sticking mostly to Sahara Square performances like a Vegas act, and Finn would continue to work for the ZPD. I could see them adopting several pups, of varying species, similar to what our celebrities do, barring the difference that Gazelle and Finn would earnestly want to give their calves better lives, and not see them as just a fashion accessory and means of virtue signaling.

These kids' interests would be all over the place, some taking after their adoptive Mom or Dad, and taking an interest in music or law enforcement. Others would stray to different interests and careers. But regardless all would be fully supported and loved by their odd parents. I don't see Gazelle or Finn pushing for a specific career like Dorian did, but nurturing whatever interest their pups have to the best of their abilities.

When most of those kids are grown, and the tech has improved enough, that's when I could see Gazelle and Finnick taking a stab at having a hybrid and pursuing cutting-edge fertility treatments to make it happen. By this point, Finn would be looking at early retirement, and Gazelle probably would have put a pin in her nightly stage shows to become more of a support or guest singer and lyricist on other younger performer's songs, allowing the both of them to be nearly full time stay at home parents. As for what a hypothetical Gazelle and Finn pup would look like, that's all over the place...they could be lanky and canid looking, tiny and antelope looking...who can say? But regardless, Gazelle and Finn would have pups in my lore down the road. The means and desire would be there.

That said, I took a stab at some designs for some 'theoretical hybrids', and as per usual, as I crafted these two I came up with personality stuff for them.

Gabriel Finnley - Awkward, lanky, and very insecure about his hybrid identity, Gabe is somewhat of a social recluse and introvert. His interests are all dorky, and very self-involved, which makes connecting with either of his parents very difficult a lot of the time, though they try to be supportive. Gabe has a hoof full of real-life friends that get together at that gaming store run by that weird older goat couple to play BnB. This is because as much as Gabe isn't very keen on being out in public, the store is relatively quiet, and having sessions in the family 'manor' just feels awkward, as it makes him feel less like he's normal, and on equal footing with his other equally dorky friends. That said, his favorite pastime, as well as his method of running BnB sessions when he's feeling too agoraphobic to leave the house, is VR sessions. In the VR space, Gabe can 'choose' how he looks, and that suits him just fine.

Frankie Finnley-Gazelle - Frankie is the polar opposite of her older brother. An energetic extrovert who copes with being teased over her hybrid status by sharply leaning into whatever 'hybrid rumors' other mammals are tossing around (Short of myths that could get her hurt.) This includes threatening to eat other mammals, pred or prey. , As well as cackling madly and claiming the conflict between her pred and prey brains are driving her 'Loco'. Needless to say, save for a few mammals she managed to befriend in kit-hood, most of the Zootopian populace gives her a wide berth whenever she passes by. But it's no skin off Frankie's nose, as she has more than enough blessings in her life to make her happy.

So that's some brief, rough run-downs of these two. Are the canon? Aren't they? Who cares, it was a fun exercise regardless...

Thanks for your ask!

Ask the Cops; The Dumbest Lawbreaker

Nick and Judy: Weaselton.

Bogo: *Groans* Weaselton...

Wade: Even I know who Weaselton is...we've picked him up a few times in our district. One of them times that idiot got his tongue stuck to a lamppost while tryin' ta make off with some ol' lady sheep's purse.

Nick: Seriously? *Laughs* How?

Wade: Well, based on the witness testimony, and the evidence at the scene, seems like he tried ta yank the purse away, and whipped around to run without fully gettin' his bearin's while tryin' to flee as fast as his legs could carry him. He barley made it two steps before collidin' face-first into the pole, and his maw was wide open.

Judy: Knowing Duke, probably because he was laughing like a maniac...

Wade: By the time me and Mavsa got to the scene, the ol' ewe had been wailin' on him fer a good ten minutes with her cane...*Snickers* She couldn't really hurt him all that much considerin' the gal was kickin' around her nineties, but even weak little thwaps can start to wear y'all down after ten minutes...

Nick: What about you Finn?

Finnick: *Scratches chin thoughtfully.* Hmm...still you Nick...

Nick: *Nick feigns being slighted* Ouch, Francis you wound me...

Finnick: *Growls* Keep my first name outcha mouth Wilde...I've only gotten better at taking down mammals ten times my size since joining the ZPD. I won't even break a sweat dealin' with you...

Nick: *Laughs* Hey, what I lack in physical strength I make up for in being charismatic and quick on my feet...

Judy: *Gets between the two tods, holding her paws out to keep them at a distance from each other.* Alright, alright, guys. You're both pretty, so please stop winding each other up. I don't want to have to arrest two of my fellow officers.

Nick: Fine, fine...I'll save my barbed wit for another target for now...like the other Hunter Officers perhaps?

*Dorian glares at the tod, causing him to shrink into his shoulders.*

Nick: *Coughs* N-not you of course Sheriff...

Dorian: A 'course not Officer Wilde...but do try and cut my boys some slack alright...y'all should know by now what with bein' a fancy city cop how hard police work actually is...

Nick: R-Right...yessir...*Gulps*

Dorian: Up where I'm from we got a few...dim bulbs flickerin' in and out of the station every so often. The Baah'ly Brothers fer one...usually startin' bar fights er' vandalizin' folks crops...they've even tried their hooves at hoaxin' a few crop circles which got my boy Ully's hackles up...Then there's old George Boarson's son, Billy Boarson...that boy ended up on the sex offender registry thanks to stickin' his willy in a buncha places it don't belong, and several o' those times we got called to pull the poor idiot out of whatever he got himself 'stuck' in.

Judy: *Cringes* Do I want to know this?

Dorian: He's purty harmless...mostly got caught with his pig pecker in a bunch of inanimate thangs...Although there was one time he tried to get frisky with one of ol' Shetland's Ostriches... *Winces* That was the one that got him bumped up from local sex pervert to registered sex offender...As well as a nasty talon scar on his face fer his trouble...

*Yuri and Trent look at each, a mixture of disgust and amusement on their faces as they stifle a laugh*.

Wade: What's so funny?

Yuri: Nothin' nothin'...just *Snrk* Got a bunch o' jokes about Billy Boarson stuffin' bird hittin' my brain all at once. *Pft*

Trenton: *PFFT*Thank the gods it weren't just me... remember the ol' rhyme they had kickin' around when we was teens...

Yuri: *In a sing-songy tone* Billy Boarson boffed a bird.

Trenton: *Now joining in Yuri's tenor* Although I'm sure it sounds absurd.

Yuri: He grasped and gripped while the big bird squirmed. And sprayed its feathers with ropes of-.

Dorian: *Cuts Yuri off* Alright, alright, I know how it goes...I know we're all cops here, but try to keep the gutter talk to a minimum boys...

Yuri: *Rolls his eyes* Psh, fine...I'll just talk about my dumbest perps...most of which are o' course, gang members...Usually pups so y'all expect 'em to be dumb.

Dorian: Anythin' serious?

Yuri: Not from the young ones. Usually, they get busted fer spray paintin' er' dealin' nip er' toad drops er' lichen gum...I've picked up a number of 'em just walkin' down the road with a crate o' booze, lookin' nowhere near eighteen...Then me and Lance get to listen to them struggle to make excuses fer themselves 'er adamantly declare they're adults but fergot their wallet. The dumbest stories they're just prayin' we'll take at face value and let 'em off...

Trenton: How long do you let them go on for before taking them in?

Yuri: As long as it takes to hang themselves, which don't take long fer 'em to do... Of course, we let 'em go longer iffin' it's real funny. *Chuckles*

*The assembled cops laugh knowingly*

Yuri: We also got a homeless guy called ol' Gus, kind of a crotchety old jaguar who spends most of his days proletizin' about the end times on street corners...*Laughs* Kinda reminds me of Ully actually...just without a handler in Honey.

*Dorian snorts, clearly unimpressed by Yuri's comparison of Ully to a crazy homeless mammal*

Yuri: We take him down to the station from time to time iffin' he has one of his more aggressive days, er' needs to sleep off some booze fer the night. Dumb as a box o' rocks but loves to talk to anyone who will listen, so me and Lance get subjected to a lot o' his crazy stories...

Trenton: Sounds more sad than dumb...

Yuri: Well, one o' my favorite dumb perp stories features Gus just walkin' into a carrot phone store and yanking a tablet out of its stand. Then he goes out the nearest corner and just plops down there to toy with it...So we get called out, and he tells me, Lance, and the manager standin' there, watchin' him use the tablet that he always had it. Despite the fact he'd never got past the lock screen...and the metal brackets and torn USB cable were still hangin' off the damn thang...

Dorian: Sound like them kids you was talkin' about earlier...

Yuri: Yeah, well those kids wouldn't have been as dumb as to start writin' a grocery list in Sharpie on the tablet, thinkin' that's how tablets work.

*The cops share a laugh*

Wade: What about you Trent?

Trenton: Eh, my job ain't got much to tell...I'm a trooper, not a cop. So most o' my dumb perps tend to come in the form of folks lyin' to get out of a speedin' ticket. I can't tell ya how many times I've had bunnies tryin' to convince me, totally stone-faced and serious that 'clearly my radar gun is broken, cause they were only goin' 55...' Meanwhile, I'm flippin' through the highway cams up the road catchin' stills of these folks blowin' past everyone else like it's a fast and furrious movie...

Dorian: It's really somethin' just how many folks will try to convince y'all, right to yer face, that they didn't break the law...it's like they got no other option but goin' fer broke...

Nick: I think that's the universal sign of a dumb perp.

Judy: At the very least a desperate one...

Finnick: Actin' like you didn't try your paw at that sorta crap when we worked our side hustles...

Nick: *Shrugs* Hey, I didn't necessarily think they'd go for it! I just figured maybe I could charm my way out of the situation...it worked...*Winces* Well sometimes...Till Carrots ruined my streak of good luck anyway...

Judy: More like dumb luck...

Nick: Hey, I'll take any luck I can get...*Laughs*

Ask Finn and Gazelle; Nudist Concerts

Gazelle: Generally my Finny prefers to duck out of my concerts at the Mystic Springs, or the Mystic Shoals...he isn't as...comfortable being nude around other mammals as I am.

Finn: Hey, I'm fine with us being naked in the privacy of our own home, especially you babe. *Chuckles*

Gazelle: *Giggles, waving Finnick off with a paw.* Dirty thoughts Mi pequeño amor! I can see them behind those little eyes of yours. Already scheming are you?

Finn: *Laughs* I could be...

Gazelle: Still, I don't know why you are so uncomfortable about nudity at the resort...everyone is naked, so it is not just some sort of low-brow peep show. That's not what those mammals are there for!

Finn: That's the problem! *Coughs awkwardly* I mean, not the peep show thing...more so the fact that everyone's naked...

*Gazelle tilts her head slightly as she eyes the diminutive fox, clearly confused.*

Gazelle: Ahh...wait, is this a....size thing? *Her eyes dart down to Finnick's waist to make clear what she means by 'size'.* Because I don't think you really have to worry about that...even for a mammal of your size you are-.

*Finnick crosses his arms and huffs*

Finn: Mam', I'm not hung up on that kinda junk! I just-! Look, if you know what I go through in the ZPD locker rooms and showers you'll know why I'd prefer not to extend any of that to what I'd consider 'leisure time'.

Gazelle: Aaahhhh...*She says, her tone one of sudden realization* Yes, I nearly forgot about the...discomfort of being at the height of most other male mammals...well...

Finn: It's a forest of dicks Gabbi, just dicks staring you down...and that's just a few officers, not a packed sweaty spa waiting with bated breath for you to perform. So my choices are to stay your purse puppy while you do the meet and greets, or having to worry about being forced to play limbo or get poked in the head or eye er' somethin...

Gazelle: *Giggles* Alright, alright Mi pequeño amor, I see your plight. *Scooping Finnick into her arms, she nuzzles the surly little tod affectionately.* While I will miss having you around at those shows, I'm more than happy to give my handsome hunk of police mammal some exclusive 'make-up' performances just for him...

Finn: Now we're talkin'. *Chuckles*

Glitz and Chips AU; Gazelle

WT: I spent a lot of time pondering this one over, exploring the ideas for Gazelle you proposed when all of the sudden an idea hit me like a ton of bricks that felt so right, I had to go with it.

Basically, my idea is that "Gazelle" Would in fact be a sentient AI that was designed by Clawhauser to help run their whole 'underground shadow organization' that Nick and Judy are inducted into. This version of Gazelle is built to manage their base and operations and help them with missions and scanning and infiltrating surface channels. At first, this version of Gazelle is very...robotic...(Think the dancing app voice from the movie). She lacks Gazelle's general warmness and the smooth butteriness of her tone. However, she was designed by the genius Clawhauser to learn and grow, and as she does she develops a personality, that warm demeanor we all know and love, and develops a penchant for singing while she 'works'.

As she becomes more of a 'mammal' she becomes the 'face' of the underground, creating music videos and propaganda rallying against the corrupt companies and ZPD that have a stranglehold over the innocent citizens' lives. By the time Nick and Judy join they are floored when they discover that Gazelle is a machine, as by that point she's so convincingly mammalian she had the entire ZPD and companies with a vested interest in putting down any counter-narratives marking her as the ring leader of the rebellion.

By this point, Clawhauser has developed a bit of a crush on his own creation, but with Gazelle's own growing personality, independence, and increasing fascination with 'actual flesh and blood' mammals, she finds herself growing increasingly chummy with Finnick, the resident mechanic, implant and bionics expert. This would cause a sort of love triangle thing to crop up, which in turn leads to a mission requiring both Finn and Clawhauser to go completely sideways, and nearly compromise and erase who Gazelle is in the process. After the close shave, Clawhauser elects to stand back and allow Gazelle and Finn to pursue a relationship, and the close call, essentially a near-death experience for Gazelle, pushes Clawhauser to invest heavily in back-ups and safeguards to ensure her consciousness is protected, eventually going so far as to line up a job that gets his claws on a top of the line synth mold, which with a little work between him and Finnick, is able to provide Gazelle with a physical form at last.

So here's "Glitz and Chips' Gazelle, AI turned Synth. The machine with a heart of gold, and a voice to match.

Ask the Zootopia Cops; Religious beliefs?

 Part 1:

WT: Ah, well that's easy in the case of the Egyiptians, as most of them are already animal hybrids. Anubis would still be a jackal and Hathor would still be a cow. You could even probably still keep the non-mammalian gods such as Toth the Ibis (My personal favorite) or Seth the crocodile as they are fictional and meant to represent attributes, activites and concepts. However, when it comes to the human gods, the best solution would probably be to roll their traits into the animal gods and remove them entirely, an example being combining Bastet and Isis, Osirus with Anubis, and so forth.

In the case of the roman pantheon, it's a bit tricky, as I haven't decided if the roman pantheon would even exist in my Animalia. The reason being is that the Pridelands Empire that expanded from South Afrikat to Southern Roarope was essentially my Rome stand-in. And the religion of the Pridelands was Simbology. I suppose I could ascribe them to the Greeks (Growlks? Still going to need to workshop that one.) In which case, if I did Zeus would by default be a lion (Leous?), Aphro'bitey' a vixen, A'paw'llo a leopard, Arams the ram, and so forth.

Part 2:

Judy: Like wolves, we actually pray to our own lunar god, Lepida. Although most rabbits who came over from Roarope latched on Bambism in order to better integrate into Roaropean society.

Nick: They worshipped Thumper I assume?

Judy: He was their patron saint. My family however has more of its roots tied to Asiatic rabbits over Roaropean ones, so we ended up sticking to the lesser-known rabbit-specific religion.

Nick: If I had to guess, I take it Lepida is some kind of fertility goddess? *Chuckles*

Judy: I really want to scold you for that one, but yes...she is...Fertility and harvest.

Nick: Like most preygan gods.

Judy: What about you Slick.

Finnick: I can answer for him. As long as I've known Nick, he's been an atheist. And I bet that hasn't changed. *Laughs*

Nick: Correctomundo buddy. I don't believe in any 'phantom sky daddy' that watches over us. If there was one, he's certainly doing a pretty poor job of stewarding us around.

Judy: What, you can't be serious? You really don't believe in anything?

Nick: I believe in things that have hard evidence. There's no hard evidence of any god figure, therefore there is no god. Scientific method Carrots.

Judy: So you don't believe that there's anything after we die? No heaven?

Nick: When I die, I expect to rot in the ground, and that's about it. Circle of life as those kooky Simbologists say.

Judy: T-that's really sad...I guess I'll just have to believe in an afterlife twice as hard for the both of us then. I don't want to end up in heaven without my mate.

Nick: *Laughs* If it makes you feel better Carrots then sure. Put in a good word for me with Lepida will you?

Judy: Of course, though I'll probably have to convince her to look over a lot of your more...questionable acts.

Nick: *Laughs* So what about you little 'Mam? I think you told me once but I can't remember.

Finnick: Egyiptian faith, but non-practicing.

Nick: Unsurprising.

Finnick: My family is from Egyipt, it's what I grew up with 'Mam, what did you really expect?

Nick: No, I mean it makes sense. Lot of gods to deal with though.

Finnick: No more than Volkinism, Bambisim, or Simbology for that matter. And those guys seem to get along with it just fine. Besides, like I said I'm non-practicing. It's a passive belief. I don't go to any church or anything, but I'll occasionally pray. That's about it.

Nick: Fair.

Judy: What about you Cheif?

Bogo: Well, I'm afraid I'll probably come off as a bit 'kooky' *Glares at Nick* for admitting this, but I'm a Simbologist.

Nick: Sttthhhh...Ooooh....Er....

Bogo: Like Officer Finnley, my family also originated from Afrikat, from the very heart of the Old Pridelands. When you live there, it's really the only belief system one can ascribe to lest you be ostracized and shunned. And though my family migrated to Zootopia two generations ago, we've more or less stuck to the religion we were groomed into.

Judy: Did you ever feel the need to explore any other belief systems, maybe a more Gnu or water buffalo-centric one?

Bogo: Not really. My family generally held the belief that 'if it isn't broken, do not fix it', and I grew up to share that sentiment.  Besides, like Officer Finnley, I'm more of a passive observer, not a devout one.

Nick: I guess that means Carrot's is the only one of us guaranteed a spot in heaven then.

Finnick: *Laughs* I'll see you in the underworld then Nicky boy.

Nick: You bring the champagne.

Finnick: No, you bring the champagne. You're the larger mammal here, and you'd probably have to smuggle it in...if you know what I mean. *Bobs his eyebrows suggestively.*

Nick: *Cringes* Ugh...Hey maybe we can get old Buffalo Butt here to sneak it in. He's got enough junk in his trunk to hide a whole picnic, complete with tables and settings in him.

Judy: Ugh...

Bogo: That's it. Wilde, Hopps, Finnley, Parking Duty, one week.

Judy: Nice one Nick!

Nick: Whoops....would it help if I say I'm sorry? Your butt looks great chief, honest.

Bogo: Two weeks.

Finnick: I didn't even do anything! And I don't even work at this precinct!

Bogo: I'll put a word in with your superior officer. Drome and me go way back after all....*Chortles*.

Ask the Foxes; Rainbow of Moprhs

Cameron: I supposed getting a sort of accurate number would depend on whether or not your are separating by species. Arctics and Fennecs are largely categorized as separate species, but still, classify colors using the general morphs, hence how you can separately categorize a white fox morph, and an arctic fox morph even though they are functionally the same. That prospect alone makes in hard to kinda pen down a hard number on all the possible colors you can find among foxes, but then you have the fact that a pelt can change color based on climate, seasonal or other factors throughout the years regardless of the species. Then there are of course cross-species foxes like your friend to talk about...Which just make thye whole thing that much more confusing...

Val: Dad, you're rambling...

Cameron: I'm not rambling, I'm merely educating you and the mammal asking the question on just how complex morph families among the vulpes species can be. Granted in the case of Val and myself...well me to a lesser extent, we are the most common color of red morph, orange.

Val: What do you mean, 'too a lesser extent' when you're talking about your own fur? You look pretty orange to me.

Cameron: My pelt is also considered part of the red morph family, but instead of being a simple orange morph like Val's is, it's actually a sort of deeper, more vibrant red referred to as 'fire'. This specific color is rarer, and its origins can be traced back to grussian red foxes, which is where a majority of my side of the family comes from if you go back far enough.

Val: Pfft...lame...I want a cooler pelt color too...

Cameron: Hey, it may have been the standard, but that was your mother's pelt color too, and I happen to think it's very cool.

Val: Pftt...sure...What about you slick?

Nick: Oh, I was waiting for my time to chime in. *Chuckles* I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as you are kid, standard red morph here, and same for my mother, though I do know quite a few vixens who are sporting pelts from the white morph family.

Judy: Quite a few eh? *Glares at Nick.

Nick: Oh hush, you know Skye, and Wade's partner from the Tundratown district. And those relationships are all above board, you know that.

Judy: And these are all still considered red foxes? So where do Arctic foxes come in?

Nick: Well, I'm pretty sure Skye and Finnick are considered 'Sandy Morphs', which are technically still Red Morphs, Although I think Wade's partner is purely a white morph.

Qali: Arctic Foxes are techincally their own species, like Fennecs. But while a majority of arctic foxes sport a 'white morph' like me and my sister Matsa, there are a bunch of arctic foxes sporting what we call a 'Blue Phase Morph', like my younger sister Auniq. Despite the name, a Blue Phase has a pelt that appears almost black or charcoal colored all year round. It's a rare morph, and it's also exclusive to Artic Foxes.

Cameron: Interesting, I don't think I've ever met a real blue morph arctic fox before. Closest I've come to meeting a fox with a pure black morph was Val's great uncle on her mother's side.

Val: Grunkle Silas? The guy who worked the steam train?

Cameron: The the same. Marian used to joke that the family could never tell whether or not he still had soot on his fur from the job. *chuckles* All you could make on in the dark was his eyes, and that garish golden fang he had put in.

Nick: In terms of just how rare your buddy's pelt is, I guess we'd need to see him. But you can more or less use the general morph categories to place him I think. Reds like me, and Val, are the more common Red fox Morph you'll run into on the street. Cameron's color is probably less rare, but I don't think most mammals outside of other foxes will pick up on that.

Cameron: Silas, and the other true Slivers and melanistic type phase foxes are rarer, although not the rarest. They are more common on this side of the world, and you're bound to meet a few of them in the colder districts. then there are of course grey morphs, which are less common here rather than in Roarope.

Nick: The white pelts, however, well I suppose they would be the rarest...although thanks to Zootopia housing a Tundra Climate, There are quite a few families of White and shades of luetcistic non-artic families that have settled down there.

Qali: You may not notice a difference between those foxes and the native arctics ones with a naked eye, especially if you are not a fox yourself, But arctic foxes are smaller than white morphs, and have stunted ears.

Cameron: And that's of course not even counting mutations...such as 'champagne' like my mother Aleta, (which is still technically a red morph) or...of course full on albino foxes, oh and let's not forget the lavender pelt, like Marian's great grandmother. And of course the Marble pelt. Which some of my younger cousins in Roarope sport, and which runs on my side. Marian's Grace, at this point it might just be easier to try to plot us all on some sort of color sheet to better help your friend out. But do tell him not to be discouraged. You are far from alone in terms of having a rather unique pelt. At the end of the day, the range is simply too vast to neatly count-out, so keep your chin up!

Ask 49; Natural Born Heroes (Zootopia's Peacekeeper's)

WT: Y'know, I didn't realize when crafting the 'Renegades' that every single one wasn't a natural-born hero. That is, born with powers. Just happened to be a coincidence. However, with this next batch of heroes, you'll find that nearly all of them, save for maybe Mr. Mirage, was born with a power. So without further ado, let's get started.

Judith Laverne Hopps - Hero Name: Hoppspeed

Born to a very large, but otherwise unremarkable family in the rural backcountry of Burrow County, Judith Laverne Hopps had a very special power. However, it didn't manifest until her early kithood during a confrontation with notorious town bully Gideon Grey at the annual Carrot Days Festival. After already relentlessly mocking Judy for her dream of being a police officer, the tod had gone on to steal her friend Sharla's festival prize tickets. Judy, determined to defend her friends demanded the tickets back, earning a scoff from the bully before the tod lunged to push her down for defying him. At that moment, the world around the rabbit seemed to slow to a crawl, almost as if time itself had nearly come to a stop. In truth, it wasn't the world that had slowed, but Judy that had sped up, her fear and anxiety triggering her latent powers for the first time.

While Judy wasn't exactly a pro at utilizing these newfound abilities on the fly, her display of super speed was more than enough to leave Gideon and his toady dizzy before sending them fleeing in terror. In their haste to get away, they had left Sharla's tickets behind, which the young bunny triumphantly returned to her awestruck friends. With these new abilities, Judy's desire to become an officer was only emboldened. She was no longer just some unremarkable, soft little rabbit with the odds stacked against her, but rather a true 'powered' with abilities that would easily outmatch even the largest normal mammal's the ZPD had. Such a gift would not only pave the way for her getting into the ZPD with ease, but allow her to rise to the ranks of the city's most hallowed and revered peacekeepers, including her idol 'Unbreakabull'.

It would take years of training to hone her abilities, mostly on her own as her family couldn't afford to send her to a school for mammals with her kind of 'gifts' But eventually, all that effort and hard work would earn her a full scholarship to the ZPD Academy, being placed in a special 'powered mammal's' program. Of course, Judy wouldn't stop there. The rabbit would continue to press her nose to the grindstone, quickly rising to the top rank in her class, and ending her tenure as the graduating classes valedictorian.

Fresh out of school she is almost immediately drafted to Precinct One's Peackeeper Division, and the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed bunny is eager to get down to business and thrash some criminals. However, her superior and idol, Unbreakabull, sandbags her almost immediately, denying her a spot working the case currently plaguing the ZPD's best minds in favor of simple hero patrol work. This leads to a warped version of the events of Zootopia and the Night Howler Case which ends with Mr. Mirage and her subduing Bleatdown (Dawn Bellwether) and saving the city.

When it comes to Judy's actual powers, it's rather simple. She's super fast. Not fast enough to travel through time or vibrate her very atoms in order to pierce through solid matter similar to some interpretations of the 'the flash'. But fast enough to use g-forces created by her own speed to easily render criminals unconscious, whip up unnatural vortexes of wind that can batter through most obstacles, or to be able to run from Zootopia to Bunny Burrow in less than five minutes without so much as breaking a sweat. That said, Judy has to stay significantly hydrated, as the energy it takes to run at such speeds burns through her reserves significantly quicker than most mammals. Also, without her costume to hold her ears down and back, her speed is nearly halved as her ears flapping freely add a massive amount of drag.

Judy believes in the righteousness of the system, and rule of law. She swears herself to uphold truth, justice and the Zootopian way much as she believes her idol 'Unbreakabull' does. She's a real Ranger Scout, as Mr. Mirage would say. So much so that Judy has a hard time seeing, and then eventually coming to terms with the corruption that has rooted itself deeply into the ranks of its Peacekeepers, as well as the 'hero-sanctioning' system Zootopia has in place and those who arbitrate its rules and regulations. Save for Unbreakabull, she is the longest hold out in terms of turning her back on the system, as she had dreamed to be a part of it as soon as her powers appeared.

Nicholas Piberious Wilde - Hero Name: Mr. Mirage

Unlike Judy, Nick wasn't born with powers. Instead, his abilities were unwillingly foisted upon him at a very early age due to a strange and mystical accident that befell him at an archeological dig site in Egyipt

John Wilde, Nick's father, was an archeologist. And while he and his family lived in Zootopia proper, the nature of his work took them to various parts of Animalia for extended stays. To a young Nick Wilde, it was something fun and fascinating, as not only did he get to see the world at a young age, he also shared his father's zest and enthusiasm for history and the ancient secrets of Animalia. But the fun and fascination in the little tod died almost outright on the night of his father's sudden disappearance at the site of his most recent dig. After a search party spent days searching the strange tomb, not a trace of the older tod was discovered. It was as if he had simply vanished, and that was something a young Nick Wilde could not accept.

The night before the family would be forced to return to Zootopia without him, young Nick would enter the cordoned-off tomb determined to find his father. Still being a kit however, it didn't take long for the big, vacant temple to send him running from shadows, driving him deeper into the bowels of the ruins until he was eventually forced into a massive and unfamiliar anti-chamber. At the far end of the room, the ornate outline of a door was etched into the stonework, and young Nick watched as it began to glow, taking on a shimmering mirror-like quality. To the little tod's shock, he could barely make out the shimmering and ghostly form of his father behind the unnatural door. It seemed to be reaching out, soundlessly calling out for Nick's help, and without thinking the terrified kit sprinted to the apparition, reaching his paws out in a desperate attempt to save him. However, the moment he touched the surface, the kit was infused with both knowledge and power that no mammal his age should know. Images of various worlds flittered past his eyes, his little body writhing in pain as strange and mysterious energy surged through it. A power so intense and unnatural that it eventually caused the little fox to collapse and pass out. When Nick awoke, he was back in the camp, sleeping across from his mother as if nothing had happened. But he knew better. What he had experienced, what he had seen was too intense and vivid to be a nightmare. And as dawn broke at the dig site, the disappearance of the ruins in their entirety only confirmed his deeper suspicions.

Filled with celestial and otherworldly knowledge, it didn't take Nick long to figure out how to use his newfound powers. But being so young, they were often subject to his emotional whims, for better or worse. This got the young kit into serious trouble when he attempted to join the Ranger Scouts a few years after his accident. The betrayal and cruelty of the other scouts tricking and muzzling him spurred his abilities into action despite not wanting to use them, which resulted in the entire troop save for himself going missing for several days. As it would turn out, Nick's abilities had ended up teleporting the entire group to one of Tundratown's snowiest mountain reserves. Thankfully, due to their ranger scout training, the group survived with minimal injuries. However, that didn't prevent Nick from spending the rest of his youth in a special Juvenile Hall for powered mammals, his plea's that he 'hadn't meant it' falling entirely on deaf ears.

It is there he meets Finnick, or (Deciyell) as he calls himself. The two form a tight bond during that time, and once released the pair stick together, pulling odd and sometimes questionable freelance jobs that make use of their abilities to get by. It is during one of their tamer business ventures, a 'popsicle recycling' racket that he comes face to face with goody-two solepads Hoppspeed and gets swept into the mess that would become the "Night Howler' Scandal.

With the city hailing them as heroes, and Hoppspeed pushing both him and Finnick to ride that title into an official capacity, she eventually convinces the reluctant tod into joining the ZPD Peacemaker division.

Nick's abilities are hard to quantify. If you needed a rough approximation to a similar existing hero to better understand his talents, you'd probably look to someone like Doctor Strange. Principally he works on illusion, both with powers one would deem 'real magic', and a mastery of prestidigitation that only serves to add a deeper level of misdirection to every move he makes. He is also remarkable cunning, and is perhaps mildly pre-cognitive due to his 'celestial knowledge'. This potent cocktail of abilities and talent make the tod a true force to be reckoned with, and in almost every case he seems to be twelve steps ahead of his opponent. However, what Wilde boasts in mental prowess and magical power, he lacks in physical strength. And all the tricks he has up his sleeves tend to fail him if someone manages to actually get their paws on his physical form. Depending on how strong his captor is, that could end up going fairly poorly for the lithe and fragile fox.

Nick is still the same snarky, sassy mammal he always was, although there is an even deeper emotional distress buried under his pelt than the Nick we know was carrying. He blames himself for the loss of his father and continues to try to use his abilities to find just where his father was transported to. He is also cursed with at least a vague knowledge of other worlds and timelines, and thus has seen both the best and worst he's capable of. Nick ends up joining Judy as a registered and sanctioned hero despite the whispers and rumors he's heard in the underground about how it truly operates largely because he quickly became smitten with the doe rabbit, although he'd be hard-pressed to admit it to her. That said, his 'Carrot's' is now the only thing keeping him on the legit path as he learns more and more unsettling secrets about who really runs the ZPD's Peacekeeper division. because of this, and his past tragedies, he identifies the most with the plight of the Renegades, and often is the one to leak information to them, as well as clean up their messes and cover for them. But he knows the inner workings of the ZPD suspect him of as much, and he knows it's just a matter of time before they try to 'deal' with him.

Finnick - Hero Name: Deci-Yell

Finnick is another mammal who had powers from birth, although his current mechanical augments amplify said power ten-fold. Finnick had a troubled childhood, similar to Nick's, although taking place entirely in Zootopia proper. Like Judy, Finn's power's didn't manifest until around grade school, in which he left a crowd of bullies permanently deaf after they had spent most of recess tormenting him. This was accidental of course, as the young kit's powers had triggered for the first time due to his heightened emotional state, but despite the circumstances Finnick still found himself shipped off to the Juvenile Hall for powered mammals.

Leaning into the skid so to speak, the rebellious little tod, feeling wronged for what had been done to him, continued to be a trouble maker inside the walls of the correctional facility before and after Nick arrived. Usually driving other mammals who bullied him there crazy by manipulating sound directly into their ears from the other side of the building, or scamming secrets and passwords off of the other inmates and faculty officials using his enhanced ability to eavesdrop. Between his and Nick's abilities, their propensity for troublemaking only heightened, and the pair didn't pull back on their mischievous schemes until it began to look like they might be transferred to an actual correctional facility come their respective eighteenth birthdays. With an exit on the horizon, the two began biding their time with good behavior until their release date came.

Once part of Zootopian society, the two began to take up various odd and sometimes questionable jobs that made good use of their abilities, Finnick's own work largely skewed toward acting as a DJ or wire for those who could pay a hefty sum. What money Finn made, he would pour into his van and augments, which grew increasingly advanced as the years went on, albeit not as streamlined as he would have liked. When Nick ended up dragging the smaller tod along with him into the 'real hero' racket, Finnick would take full advantage of the department's research and development division to perfect and streamline his augments, and better educate himself on just how to build and upkeep them.

Finnick is blessed with both super hearing and an incredibly powerful and flexible voice. Not only can he amplify his voice to deafeningly high levels,  but he can manipulate the sound and tones he generates in a variety of ways. Concentrating it to specific locations, or using specific frequencies to mask or disrupt various signals and communication methods. He is capable of whispering in the ear of a mammal practically from the other side of the city. Of course, without his augments and technology to boost his overall range and amplitude, his abilities are only half as powerful. ironically Finnick's weakness is also the very power he utilizes, as without the use of controlled sound dampeners for his ears he's at great risk of being incapacitated by loud noises including that of his own voice. Despite this, however, it seems that he can't be deafened no matter how painful the offending sound is to his sensitive ears.

Finnick is still rather blunt and crass in this universe, with even more power to back up his threats than what we're used to. That said, he, like Nick is just as suspicious of those in charge of the ZPD's peacekeeper program, and is essentially waiting for the shoe to drop that will force them both to bail. Until then, however, he's fine with following orders if it pays well, and it being 'legit' makes it less of a hassle from a legal standpoint. His only concern is for himself, at least that's what he openly says. Although he does care for Nick, and to an extent, the rather naive Judy, and is secretly worried about just what a mess they'll have on their paws when this whole 'hero gig' blows up in their faces. After all, he'd rather have stayed under the radar than risked perhaps becoming hunted one day. But a part of him, one he'd never openly admit to, felt obligated to look after Nick.

Chief Bogo - Hero Name: Unbreakabull

Unbreakabull is one of Zootopia's most well-known and respected heroes and is considered the long-standing 'face' of the ZPD's Peacekeeper division. Not much is known about Bogo's past, or what his civilian life is like outside of the station. It's presumed that he has a family based on some of the short, begrudging admissions the large water buffalo has made to his subordinates. But generally, his conversation tends to limit itself to the office and duties that must be upheld within it. From what is known thanks to his registry information, he was born with his gift, and it is not specified as to when it manifested. As his name implies, 'Unbreakabull' is just that, invincible. He's never been sick, and can't be damaged by pretty much anything known to mammals. Bullets, Bombs, Fire, nothing can seem to pierce his impossibly tough hide, and no one knows if he actually has a weakness or not. That said, his abilities, coupled with his natural strength and physique are what made him the pinnacle of the Peacekeeper's, and the 'ideal hero' to many Animalian's, Judy included.

Bogo is both the Cheif of the ZPD, and its Peacekeeper Division for 'powereds', and ultimately makes the call in most cases for who gets inducted into both organizations. However, in the case of Hopp Speed it was his benefactors who pushed for her immeadiate inclusion against his wishes. Needless to say, this shows that Bogo is sometimes a figurehead for the machinations of those above him, and based on some of the calls they've forced him to make, it's clear he's not happy with the arrangement. Which leaves one to wonder, what could they possibly be holding over an invincible mammal-like Bogo to keep him towing the party line?

So there's your batch of 'State-Sanctioned Heroes', a look at just how some of them got to where they are, and the troubled state they all seem to be in. In terms of clashes with the Renegade heroes, it is through these confrontations that Nick and Finnick slowly have their fears and suspicions confirmed, and Judy is eventually woken up to what is really going on with Zootopia's hero sanctioning process and the organizations that run it seemingly trying to own mammals with superpowers. But how it all plays out when the rubber hits the road? Well, who can say...all we can say for sure is that well...things like that eventually fall apart. The center cannot hold...
